Strong growth prompts staff promotions at UPM Tilhill

UPM Tilhill, the UK’s leading forestry, harvesting and landscaping company, has announced a number of high profile staff promotions which will take effect from today, 1st December 2008.

The changes have been prompted by a period of strong growth and development which during 2007 saw increased sales take UPM Tilhill past the £100 million threshold for the first time in its\' sixtieth anniversary year. The restructure will enable greater support for and growth within the company’s network of district offices across England, Scotland and Wales.

Tim Liddon (FICFor), Phil Johnson and Dai Lewis (MICFor) all move up the ranks from the position of District Manager to take up the new role of Regional Manager. They will now co-ordinate the work of the District teams across the company’s North, Central and South regions respectively. (North: Scotland, Central: Wales and northern England, South: the Midlands, West Country and south eastern England).

“Congratulations to Tim, Phil and Dai - three respected and successful members of staff,” said Steve Lavery, Managing Director, UPM Tilhill. “Their experience will be a huge asset to the local teams, offering effective support to district managers and nurturing closer working partnerships between districts and across business streams. By better supporting local teams – the lifeblood of our success, we can ensure that it is our clients who will ultimately benefit from these new structures.”

Promotions within Districts include Robert Herbert who steps into Tim Liddon’s former role as District Manager for South West Scotland; Rory Chisholm who takes over from Phil Johnson as District Manager for North Wales; and Rick Vallis takes over as District Manager for South East England.

In addition, Iain Sutherland, formerly Timber Operations Manager North, takes on a new role as Biomass Business Manager and Richard Baker is promoted to Regional Harvesting Manager South.

UPM Tilhill\'s successful model is built on a strategic platform that focuses on four distinct business streams – Commercial Landscaping, Rail and Utility Arboriculture, Forestry Management and Timber Harvesting. These sectors, staffed by technically-qualified and experienced teams operating from a network of 15 offices across England, Scotland and Wales, boast specialist equipment, resources, and a national network of suppliers and contractors that ensure UPM Tilhill can provide the most comprehensive contracting services to contribute to the company’s continuing success story.

UPM Tilhill’s position as a market leader is further reinforced by its position as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Finnish group UPM, a world leading global forest products company whose group\'s sales in 2007 were EUR 10 billion.
